Air

As a pilot and scientist studying hurricanes, I am keenly aware of the influence of air on the natural world.

Even gentle breezes have the power to shape the landscape over time. No doubt the prevailing winds
are from the east (right in this photo).

Air moving through a metal tube.  Not very romantic,
but moving air is how musical instruments
work.  And this guy, in St. Petersburg, Russia,
sure could make the air dance.  This shot was
taken about midnight, during the "White Nights".
In summer it barely gets dark, even late at night,
since St. Petersburg is not far from the arctic circle.

Air or Water?

Birds are such neat animals.  Many, such as this swan on the Rhine River, are at home in both.
